MORE TUNA FOR THE FRIDAY REPORT

September 18, 2009  //  Posted by: Irv  //  Category: big game 90, fishing reports, san diego sportfishing

noon Friday Sept. 18
Mike has called it another trip and is heading in. The boys are still counting the fish from this mornings battle but it looks like like the count will go over 250 mixed fish with almost 200 of them being Yellowfin for the trip.

Mike reported flat calm weather and said that the area they where fishing (85+miles so.) was spread out and looked to be holding a good quantity of fish. Mike said These next few weeks are going to be really fun.  You never know what the next sonar mark or kelp will be holding. We even had 4 albacore on this trip.

Shifty Powers

September 17, 2009  //  Posted by: admin  //  Category: thankyous

I looked this up on snopes.com. It’s attributed to Chuck Yeager - according to snopes, Chuck Yeager did not have the chance meeting, but the man who wrote the original email did indeed meet Shifty and write this.

We’re hearing a lot today about big splashy memorial services.
I want a nationwide memorial service for Darrell “Shifty” Powers.

Shifty volunteered for the airborne in WWII and served with Easy
Company of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, part of the 101st
Airborne Infantry. If you’ve seen Band of Brothers on HBO or the
History Channel , you know Shifty. His character appears in all 10
episodes, and Shifty himself is interviewed in several of them.

I met Shifty in the Philadelphia airport several years ago. I didn’t
know who he was at the time. I just saw an elderly gentleman having
trouble reading his ticket. I offered to help, assured him that he was
at the right gate, and noticed the “Screaming Eagle,” the symbol of
the 101st Airborne, on his hat.

Making conversation, I asked him if he’d been in the 101st Airborne
or if his son was serving. He said quietly that he had been in the
101st. I thanked him for his service, then asked him when he served,
and how many jumps he made.

Quietly and humbly, he said “Well, I guess I signed up in 1941 or so,
and was in until sometime in 1945 .. . . ” at which point my heart
skipped.

At that point, again, very humbly, he said “I made the 5 training
jumps at Toccoa, and then jumped into Normandy . . . . do you know
where Normandy is?” At this point my heart stopped.

I told him “yes, I know exactly where Normandy is, and I know what
D-Day was.” At that point he said “I also made a second jump into
Holland , into Arnhem .” I was standing with a genuine war hero . . . .
and then I realized that it was June, just after the anniversary of
D-Day..

I asked Shifty if he was on his way back from France , and he said
“Yes. And it’s real sad because, these days, so few of the guys are
left, and those that are, lots of them can’t make the trip.” My heart
was in my throat and I didn’t know what to say.

I helped Shifty get onto the plane and then realized he was back in
Coach while I was in First Class. I sent the flight attendant back to
get him and said that I wanted to switch seats. When Shifty came
forward, I got up out of the seat and told him I wanted him to have
it, that I’d take his in coach.

He said “No, son, you enjoy that seat. Just knowing that there are
still some who remember what we did and who still care is enough to
make an old man very happy.” His eyes were filling up as he said it.
And mine are brimming up now as I write this.

Shifty died on June 17, 2009 after fighting cancer.

There was no parade.
No big event in Staples Center .
No wall to wall back to back 24×7 news coverage.
No weeping fans on television.
And that’s not right.

Let’s give Shifty his own Memorial Service, online, in our own quiet
way. Please forward this email to everyone you know. Especially to the
veterans.

Rest in peace, Shifty.

Chuck Yeager, MajGen. [ret.]

A GOOD REMINDER OF WHAT WE BELIVE IN

September 17, 2009  //  Posted by: Irv  //  Category: Sportfishing

This Guy had the Guts to put this on the Internet…We love it. Way to GO!!!!

If posting this on our site costs us business so be this is what we believe

?

YES, I’M A BAD AMERICAN

I Am the Liberal-Progressives Worst Nightmare..

I am an American.

I am a Master Mason and believe in God.

I ride Harley Davidson Motorcycles and believe in American products.

I believe the money I make belongs to me and my family, not some Liberal governmental functionary be it Democratic or Republican!

I’m in touch with my feelings and I like it that way!

I think owning a gun doesn’t make you a killer, it makes you a smart American.

I think being a minority does not make you noble or victimized,

and does not entitle you to anything. Get over it!

I believe that if you are selling me a Big Mac, do it in English.

I believe everyone has a right to pray to his or her God when and where they want to.

My heroes are John Wayne, Babe Ruth, Roy Rogers, and Willie G. Davidson-that makes the Awesome Harley Davidson Motorcycles.

I don’t hate the rich.. I don’t pity the poor.

I know wrestling is fake, and I don’t waste my time watching or arguing about it.

I’ve never owned a slave, or was a slave, I haven’t burned any witches or been persecuted by the Turks and neither have you!

So, shut up already.

I believe if you don’t like the way things are here, go back to where you came from and change your own country!

This is AMERICA …We like it the way it is!

If you were born here and don’t like it you are free to move to any Socialist country that will have you.

I want to know which church is it exactly where the Reverend Jesse Jackson preaches, where he gets his money, and why he is always part of the problem and not the solution.

Can I get an AMEN on that one?

I also think the cops have the right to pull you over if you’re breaking the law, regardless of what color you are.

And, no, I don’t mind having my face shown on my drivers license.

I think it’s good…. And I’m proud that ‘God’ is written on my money.

I think if you are too stupid to know how a ballot works, I don’t want you deciding who should be running the most powerful nation in the world for the next four years.

I dislike those people standing in the intersections trying to sell me stuff or trying to guilt me into making ‘donations’ to their cause. Get a Job and do your part!

I believe that it doesn’t take a village to raise a child, it takes two parents.

I believe ‘illegal’ is illegal no matter what the lawyers think.

I believe the American flag should be the only one allowed in AMERICA !

If this makes US a BAD AmericanS, then yes, WE are BAD Americans.

If you are a BAD American too, please forward this to everyone you know.
We want our country back!

WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, ONLY BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE!

WE NEEEEEEEEEEEED YOUR PHOTOS…………………….PLEASE

September 12, 2009  //  Posted by: Irv  //  Category: Sportfishing

.

Mike just called in to report that they have a little tougher weather today but have managed to scratch out 50+ mixed fish for the day so far and are going back on a kelp as I speek.

I will be out of the office for the next 3 days (trying to eliminate some more of those pesky doves) but Willie might put up a post or two while I’m out killing.

Guys and Gals I’m asking for your help again . In August we kicked off a new feature (Your Trip Photos) on REPORTS FROM THE BRIDGE and we’re begging you for photos.

These can be any photos that where taken of fish caught on the Big Game 90. Just give me when and who and we will put them up. I’ll let Willie tell you how.

Here’s what you do:

Email your photos to BG90photos@gmail.com. Don’t send huge files. Shrink ‘em down a bit first. Don’t paste ‘em into your email. Attach ‘em. If you don’t know how to do all that, get your nearest 12 year old to show you how. That’s what I did.
Don’t forget to tell us the trip number or the date of the trip you were on. We can’t post ‘em if we don’t know where to post ‘em to.
Don’t forget it’s a G rated site. We won’t post your dirty pictures (but that don’t mean you can’t send em anyway).

Bill Murphy’s book

September 11, 2009  //  Posted by: Irv  //  Category: thankyous

Good morning all:

As most of you know that from time to time I post somthing that does not have anything to do with the BIG GAME 90 or offshore fishing.

Well this is one of them.

For many years I have been one of several San Diego avid big bass fisherman.

This spring we lost one of the best and most experienced of those men.

Mr. Bill Murphy will be remembered as one of the best.

Bill has left us a fine piece of literature on the subject of hunting for trophy bass fishing in southern California.

If you would like to purchase a copy of his book please go to carolemurphy@rocketmail.com

this is a very informative book and is a collectors item too.

thanks bill you will be remembered
