GET THE MOST FOR YOUR FISHING DOLLARS

May 07, 2010  //  Posted by: Irv  //  Category: Sportfishing

I don’t know what’s up with the type of trips some of the other boats are scheduling BUT if you want to get 2 full days of fishing in try one of our 2 1/2 day trips.

These trips have been very popular with our customers for over 25 years.

On trips departing from Long Beach you depart in the evening at 8 pm and if we are fishing Catalina you will be fishing some time arround midnight to 1am on the first morning. Then on the second day you will fish until dark at least depending where you end up and you may fish until midnight then return to port at 6 am.

Now that’s 2 full days of fishing.

On trips Departing from San Diego you will at 7pm travel all night fish from daylight to dark for 2 days then travel home arriving arround 6 to 9 am the 3 1/2 day trips do the same with an extra day in the middle.

Try one out and you will find that you get the most fishing time for your money.

Check out the schedule.

ON THE BACKSIDE OF CATALINA

May 06, 2010  //  Posted by: Irv  //  Category: Sportfishing

Capt. Mike called in just to let everyone know they are alive and well and fishing on the back side of the Emerald Isle todayon the first day of a 2 day trip.

Mike said that there is a big west swell and a south wind makeing things a bit sloppy especially for the guys in small boats. He said it wasn’t bad for the BIG GAME and the passengers where all at the rail trying for the seabass. “we have 1 saebass and Halibut so far
and we lost 3 other fish due to too light of line “these seabass up hear are real tuskers and you should be using at least 30lb. for them” Mike will keep us posted.

The weather forecasts for early May  are much more like normal for this time of year.

With the weather improving and the water warming the fishing should improve dramatically. There seems to be a good amount of yellowtail arround and the seabass have made some showings indicating that the spring spawn is on. Even the bass have been biting in spite of the windy weather.

That all being said the BIG GAME is back on line this week starting with a 2 day trip departing on Wednesday night. So far we have a very light load but the trip is a go. Call the BIG GAME office @

858 270-7525 to book this trip.

THESE ARE NOT THE KIND OF PICTURES A MOM AND DAD WANT TO GET FROM THEIR SON

May 02, 2010  //  Posted by: Irv  //  Category: Sportfishing

Many of you remember my son Russ working on the Big Game and other boats while going to school.

He is now a captain on a supply vessel in the Gulf of Mexico. His company E C O M is heavily involved in the effort to help control the fire and spill caused by the drilling platform DEEPWATER HORIZON. Contrary to what the press and oil companies are claiming this rig’s oil output was at least 3 years from reaching the consumer market and shouldn’t make an immediate spike in oil prices

Also note that these pictures show that most of the crude is burring off leaving a much lighter slick than would  found from pure crude. in this case burning it off is good.

Our thoughts and prayers  are with the brave men and women that are working day and night to control this disaster. Let’s hope the politicians keep there noses out of this and let the people who know best how to handle it do their jobs.
