MIKE WRIGHT’S FIRST SEABASS

BIG GAME 90

THREE ISLANDS IN 4 DAYS NOW THAT’S FISHING FROM LONG BEACH

March 22, 2010  //  Posted by: Irv  //  Category: fish reports

We where out 4 days and looked at 3 islands.

We spent our 2 day trip at S C I the first day we looked at the front side of the the Island and found good conditions and fun fishing. There was a little sign of yellowtail down east but we didn’t put any on the boat. We spent the night in the cove looking for squid. There is a little sign of bait squid there but we only managed to catch a few pieces on catchers.

On day 2 we worked our way up the back side. We found cooled water and the bass fishing was slow and no exotics.

On Friday night we made the run to Santa Barbara Island. The water was 59′ but clean .

the bass bit a little and we had very good fishing for big whitefish sheep head and assorted rockfish all in very shallow water. Late in the day we where chasseing some Bonito and managed to put a very nice yellow on board.

On Sunday we went to the Emerald Isle. The day before one of our code boats had made the year’s first good catch of seabass and everyone was excited to go give it a try. WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK STEVE FROM THE MOODY MARLIN FOR ALL OF THE GOODIES HE GAVE TO THE LUCKY FOLKES ON THIS TRIP.

As so often happens we should have been there yesterday. We did manage one seabass but no more and the bass fishing was slow. We did see some small schools of sea bass in several ares so we expect that the fishing should pick up as this full moon arrives next week.

The boat will be at the dock during the week. The boys will be at the Del Mar show Wed.& Thurs. Then they will be back out on a 2 day open party trip over the weekend.
This trip is very light and we have reduced the price to just $199 for the 2 days.

THAT’S CORRECT THE WEEK DAY PRICE OVER A WEEKEND $199

SEE YOU ON THIS ONE

Hello all

Thanks to Doc and Clay we have some really nice pictures of Doc’s charter last weekend.

For those of you who are new to the blog just click on                                                   YOUR TRIP PHOTOS and scroll down to trip # RF4

Doc is talking about a 3 3/4 day trip next year over president’s day weekend.

This will allow us to go a little farther down and fish the waters outside Geronimo Island and Sac. Reef.   These waters are virtually unfished.

It’s like the fishing for Reds and Ling Cod  was 30 years ago. I’ll bet some of you fished with Doc and me on the China Clipper back then.  Remember how the Santa Rosa flats and San Miguel Island where. Well this area is every bit as good!!!!!!!!!

If you are interested in going on a trip like this with one of the best charter masters and his friends around give him a call 805 983-3040 or email him   docski377@aol.com and get on the list.

A 2 1/2 day Doc ski trip and then it’s off to Long Beach

February 15, 2010  //  Posted by: Irv  //  Category: fish reports, long beach fish reports

Capt Mike and the BIG GAME crew returned this morning from a 2 1/2 day charter that fished down the Mexican coast.

Mike said that the weather was fantastic and the fishing was good also.

After stopping short and catching some giant squid Mike said  they had a nice surprise when they arrived at the high spot off collnett. Some of  the other boats where catching  yellowtail so Mike got the group rigged up with heavy yo-yo jigs and they managed to put 9 nice fish on the boat before the fish sunk out . After the yellows stopped showing they went looking for reds down cost  closer to San Martin. although Mike and the crew  put in a long hard day they didn’t produce much .It seems that when the giant squid  move in  the rockfish  move off the spots.  On the 2nd morning they where back at collnett trying to sample some more yellows but as so often happens the dammed fish didn’t show that morning. Mike spent the remainder of the day drifting the different high spots at collnett and managed to fill everyone’s bags with nice quality whitefish , reds and 4 ling cod.

The final count was 200+whitefish 112 reds and assorted rockfish, 4 lings, 9 yellows and 93 giant squid

This was our last trip from San Diego until we return in the last week of June to start our summer trips.

SLOPPY WEATHER BUT THE FISH KEEP ON COMING‏

September 22, 2009  //  Posted by: Irv  //  Category: big game 90, fish reports, san diego fishing

Mike checked in this morning to report that despite the weather being a bit sloppy the fish are still arround and willing to bite.

Mike said that with all of the great weather this summer when the wind comes up even a little everyone cries. Yes it’s a little sloppy but we can work any direction we want and we are still finding kelps with fish on them. We have over 150 fish on the boat now and still have until dark to fish.

We have a few openings on Wednesday’s night’s 2 day trip. Then most of our trips from there on out until the end of October are now full but give us a call to see if we have any cancelations.

We do have 2 spots on DOC SKIS 7 day charter Oct. 19 to 26 call for details
