IT BACK TO WORK BUT ON A SAD NOTE

Hello all!!!!!!

Well we are back from our much needed time off.

Mike and the boys had a great time in Mexico and I had good hunting in Nebraska but as always good things come to an end.

Mike has already started some projects on the boat and I am booking trips for the upcoming season.

Our first trip of the year is a 2 1/2 day Colonet trip that departs on January 16, 2009.             If you book this trip and mention you saw it advertised hear on REPORTS FROM THE BRIDGE you can go for 50% off the regular price. There are a limited amount of spots at this price so call Larry now to save.

On a sad note long time friend and mentor Dick Helgern passed away this weekend.

My father knew Dick and fished with him as far back as the late 1950s when Dick was running the Catalina Special for Norm Hagen. I caught my first yellow tail on the Reel Special when Dick was running it a few years later. I worked for Dick off and on during the 1960s on the Electra while I was still in school. In the early 1970s when I bought my first boat (the Sundown) Dick counseled and helped me tough those first tough years as a young boat owner. When I started to build a new Sundown in 1979  I used many of his ideas on the new boat.

Dick was one of the best sportfishing operators I have ever known. It wasn’t just his fish sense  (witch was equaled by very few) but it was his business sense and his ability to make every passenger feel special and appreciated.

Richard you may be gone but you will never be forgotten.

Great Fishing, Weather, & Prizes - Don’t Miss Out

November 12, 2008  //  Posted by: Irv  //  Category: long beach sportfishing

Still a few spots left on Thursday night’s 2½ day “November Long Range” trip out of Long Beach.

The weather should be perfect - Santa Ana conditions will make it sunny and calm on the banks and at the islands.  Great weather, great fishing, and don’t forget – the largest ling wins an Okuma Catalina CT-55N fishing reel, and the largest yellowtail wins a one day pass for spring fishing aboard the Big Game 90.

Last week’s trip started at the Cortez Bank with plenty of big bonito and yellowtail to 27 pounds, then headed over to San Nicolas Island for limit fishing on quality rock cod and ling cod to 22 pounds (the AVERAGE on the lingosaurs was 12-13 pounds!).

Ling cod fishing closes on December 1, so you don’t have much more time to catch some of the best eating fish around.  If you can’t make it this Thursday, we have one other 2½ day and one 2 day trip remaining in November.  Check the schedule, then call the Big Game office now at 858 270-7525 to book one of these trips.

There will also be grand prizes given for the largest Ling Cod of the month (a gold Okuma 2 speed reel) and the largest Yellowtail (a 2 1/2 day trip in the spring from Long Beach Marina).

Don’t miss out – Call 858 270-7525 to reserve your spot on the rail.

Easy limits on the lings to 22 pounds and great rock fishing.
