After 3 1/2 weeks of nonstop work and having to deal with several Gremlins and a  Coasty with his head up his ass the boys are headed to Long Beach.
 
Mike said he will be looking for squid along the cost tonight and should be at the marina midmorning tomorrow.
 
We would like to apologize for the delay but the government boy doing the inspection didn’t feel the urgency of us needing to be in Long Beach last night and didn’t show up to do the last part of the inspection on the new generators until late this morning.
     BOY IS HIS BOSS GOING TO GET AN EAR FULL

Good morning all:

Well it’s two days down and three days to go at the Del Mar Fred Hall show and Boy-O Boy we have been busy. It seems that every guy and gal that has fished with Mike or myself in the last 25 years has stopped buy to say hello. Rumors of seabass at catalina were going around the show and some of the Long beach landings last week but the rumors were proven true when Capt. Ray on the Toronado reported catching 3 fish Sunday morning while sitting on a spot of fish that he had found on the sonar. Ray said that it was a ^^$%(&& spot of fish and if the (*^^&$seals had left them alone they might have made a real nice catch of seabass.

Well we are out of the water and will be putting in new generators as well as doing our yearly coastguard inspections.

Ray you will have a 3 week head start on us. Just enough time to get them rounded up for us. The Thunderbird was at Clemente Sunday and reported seeing large schools of yellows chasing bait but didn’t land any.

The BIG GAME will start the 2009 nine season with a couple of 2 day trips - A 976 tuna charter April 2 & 3, and we have an open party trip April 4 & 5.

Hello all!!!!!!

Well we are back from our much needed time off.

Mike and the boys had a great time in Mexico and I had good hunting in Nebraska but as always good things come to an end.

Mike has already started some projects on the boat and I am booking trips for the upcoming season.

On a sad note long time friend and mentor Dick Helgern passed away this weekend.

My father knew Dick and fished with him as far back as the late 1950s when Dick was running the Catalina Special for Norm Hagen. I caught my first yellow tail on the Reel Special when Dick was running it a few years later. I worked for Dick off and on during the 1960s on the Electra while I was still in school. In the early 1970s when I bought my first boat (the Sundown) Dick counseled and helped me tough those first tough years as a young boat owner. When I started to build a new Sundown in 1979  I used many of his ideas on the new boat.

Dick was one of the best sportfishing operators I have ever known. It wasn’t just his fish sense  (witch was equaled by very few) but it was his business sense and his ability to make every passenger feel special and appreciated.

Richard you may be gone but you will never be forgotten.
