MORE TUNA FOR THE FRIDAY REPORT

September 18, 2009  //  Posted by: Irv  //  Category: big game 90, fishing reports, san diego sportfishing

noon Friday Sept. 18
Mike has called it another trip and is heading in. The boys are still counting the fish from this mornings battle but it looks like like the count will go over 250 mixed fish with almost 200 of them being Yellowfin for the trip.

Mike reported flat calm weather and said that the area they where fishing (85+miles so.) was spread out and looked to be holding a good quantity of fish. Mike said These next few weeks are going to be really fun.  You never know what the next sonar mark or kelp will be holding. We even had 4 albacore on this trip.

IRV GOES FISHING…………

September 02, 2009  //  Posted by: Irv  //  Category: big game 90, fish reports, san diego fishing, san diego sportfishing, thankyous

Hello all IRV hear;

Boy how things have changed. Instead of making the annual dove opener this year Jake got to go in my place and I went out on the boat for 2 days.

I got to spend time with some old friends and make several new ones. We told sea stories and drank some good whiskey. O ya! in-between stories we caught tuna, yellows and dorado.

Despite the bait being pure )*^)&^(&^*@ we did manage to put over 160 mixed fish on the boat. WOW this fall is looking good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

September is hear and the kids are back in school and the labor day holiday is next weekend.

For most avid fishermen this is the time of year that signals great mixed bag fishing with lighter loads on most boats especially on the week days.

I’m not one to make big predictions but I’m going to stick my neck out hear.

This fall has the potential of being one of the best in over 25 years. For  you who remember the fall of 1983. We where still catching tuna in November.

If we can still get enough passengers to go this year will be the same.

We still have openings on several of these trips

First place jack-pot went to Cesar Espino with a 46.1 yellowfin. Garth Christianson took second with a 38.3 albacore and ernest rivera snagged third place with a 29.2 yellowtail.

there where also 6 more yellowfin over 40lbs. that where taken but weren’t interred in the jack-pot

Mike reporter seeing several nice schools of tuna that didn’t want to bite or because of the rough weather they couldn’t get back on them “when this weather straightens out we are going to have some of the best tuna fishing in years”

We have openings on Sunday night’s 2 1/2 day and several openings on Wednesday Night’s 976 tuna price buster 2 day trip.

IT BACK TO WORK BUT ON A SAD NOTE

December 29, 2008  //  Posted by: Irv  //  Category: big game 90, deep sea fishing charters, fishing reports, long beach boat fishing, long beach fishing charters, long beach sportfishing, san diego boat fishing, san diego charter fishing, san diego fish reports, san diego fishing charters, san diego sportfishing

Hello all!!!!!!

Well we are back from our much needed time off.

Mike and the boys had a great time in Mexico and I had good hunting in Nebraska but as always good things come to an end.

Mike has already started some projects on the boat and I am booking trips for the upcoming season.

Our first trip of the year is a 2 1/2 day Colonet trip that departs on January 16, 2009.             If you book this trip and mention you saw it advertised hear on REPORTS FROM THE BRIDGE you can go for 50% off the regular price. There are a limited amount of spots at this price so call Larry now to save.

On a sad note long time friend and mentor Dick Helgern passed away this weekend.

My father knew Dick and fished with him as far back as the late 1950s when Dick was running the Catalina Special for Norm Hagen. I caught my first yellow tail on the Reel Special when Dick was running it a few years later. I worked for Dick off and on during the 1960s on the Electra while I was still in school. In the early 1970s when I bought my first boat (the Sundown) Dick counseled and helped me tough those first tough years as a young boat owner. When I started to build a new Sundown in 1979  I used many of his ideas on the new boat.

Dick was one of the best sportfishing operators I have ever known. It wasn’t just his fish sense  (witch was equaled by very few) but it was his business sense and his ability to make every passenger feel special and appreciated.

Richard you may be gone but you will never be forgotten.
