IT BACK TO WORK BUT ON A SAD NOTE

December 29, 2008  //  Posted by: Irv  //  Category: big game 90, deep sea fishing charters, fishing reports, long beach boat fishing, long beach fishing charters, long beach sportfishing, san diego boat fishing, san diego charter fishing, san diego fish reports, san diego fishing charters, san diego sportfishing

Hello all!!!!!!

Well we are back from our much needed time off.

Mike and the boys had a great time in Mexico and I had good hunting in Nebraska but as always good things come to an end.

Mike has already started some projects on the boat and I am booking trips for the upcoming season.

Our first trip of the year is a 2 1/2 day Colonet trip that departs on January 16, 2009.             If you book this trip and mention you saw it advertised hear on REPORTS FROM THE BRIDGE you can go for 50% off the regular price. There are a limited amount of spots at this price so call Larry now to save.

On a sad note long time friend and mentor Dick Helgern passed away this weekend.

My father knew Dick and fished with him as far back as the late 1950s when Dick was running the Catalina Special for Norm Hagen. I caught my first yellow tail on the Reel Special when Dick was running it a few years later. I worked for Dick off and on during the 1960s on the Electra while I was still in school. In the early 1970s when I bought my first boat (the Sundown) Dick counseled and helped me tough those first tough years as a young boat owner. When I started to build a new Sundown in 1979  I used many of his ideas on the new boat.

Dick was one of the best sportfishing operators I have ever known. It wasn’t just his fish sense  (witch was equaled by very few) but it was his business sense and his ability to make every passenger feel special and appreciated.

Richard you may be gone but you will never be forgotten.

Right now the  fishing is as good as it gets. Bluefin, yellowfin, albacore & yellowtail are all on the menu. Weather its a 1 1/2 day trip to one of the local banks or a 3 to 6 1/day multi day trip it just doesn’t get any better.

The loads are lite  and the fishing is fantastic. Don’t miss out on the best mixed bag fishing in years!!

Sashimi Special

September 12, 2008  //  Posted by: Irv  //  Category: san diego sportfishing

Captain Mike Jewett just called in on his way home from a 2 day trip – he hated having to drive away from a good tuna bite this morning to head up the line. But they worked their way home through some good water with lots of kelps, and were able to top off the trip with a nice mix of Yellowtail and Yellowfin Tuna today.

On top of all the YT and YFT action, Mike said he talked to some boats catching Bluefin a little farther to the west. Plenty of good fishing options for tomorrow, and good weather as a bonus.

Mike’s going to do a fast turnaround and get out tonight at 9pm on a 1½ day to target Yellowtail & mixed Tuna - a sashimi special. There might still be room for you – it’s a pretty light load tonight, so if you have a chance for a last minute getaway this could be one of those all-time trips.

Call 858-270-7525 now to see if you can get on the trip, and don’t forget to mention you’re a Reports From the Bridge subscriber to claim your fat discount.
