Going The Distance Pays Off!!!!!!!!!!

Jul 23, 2010  //  Posted by: Irv  //  Category: Sportfishing

Sometimes you just have to go for it. That is what I told Mike last night when he called to let me know he was headed for Cedros for the 2nd day of a 3 1/2 day that they are on. Mike said that the the Bulefin and Albacore are still not wanting to bite and makeing the long run to Cedros was what he felt he needed to do to give the folks some Quality fishing. It’s one hell of a lot more fuel but you got to do what’s best for your passengers I told him and then went to check if I had enough money in the bank to pay the *(^%&^fuel bill.
What the Hell OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

man i’m going out in a couple days, i’m paying big bucks for tuna not yellowtails or bass. sure hope the captain gets his head together and finds the biteing tuna. TUNA TUNA TUNA. NOTHING BUT

  2. Irv Says:

James if that’s your attitude I would suggest you just stay home

Mike will take the boat where he feels there is the best chance of making a catch for the entire group.

Probably wrong choice of words, just would rather come home with nothing knowing we spent all the time trying for tuna. Dont know why anyone would be happy catching sand bass on a tuna trip.
Not meaning to say anything bad about the captain,( choice of words),Been fishing with him before and i would not be fishing with him again if i didn’t think he would do his best to find the fish and bribe them to bite my hook.
lets prey the big fish feel like eating. I look at the other boats and can see that knowone else is catching them fishies either. everyone prey.
Sorry for bad choice of words, would have edited if it were possible.

Holy cow!!! James, if Mike ends up “going the distance” on your trip, you might want to keep those thoughts to yourself or you may only go “half the distance” if you get my “drift”.

Also, you may want to use an alias when you hand big Irv the dough on the boat.

  5. John Says:

Wow…..I am going on this boat soon, glad to hear that “over and beyond” efforts are made to find fish. I have never met this Captain or crew and I already like em!…been waiting for this trip since nov. 2009. excited to just be able to get out there and catch anything. funny how some people could complain about catching fish. {even if it’s not the intended species}.

  6. sand bass lover Says:

    What’s wrong with sandbass? lol

You should give james a cell phone so when he goes “Half the distance”, he can call us when the fish bite!!!!!

    Stay bent..

This is a good boat.. Do what benefits the trip, not a single angler(complainer)!!!!!!

Have a safe and awkward trip!!!!

  7. big drew Says:

That’s why they call it fishing and not catching Mike and the crew have always tried to get fish as hard as possible MYself and our group are looking forward to our sixth multiday trip on the “90″ in sept-conditions will change soon enough and hope we all can get something thanks

  8. Irv Says:

As of 1pm this afternoon they have 26 albacore for the trip
    I tuyly James is happy

We will most likely be running down the cost on this next 3 1/2 day trip

  9. Rafael Says:

    Irv,
Do you know what the water temperature is near tuna grounds?
    Thanks

  10. Irv Says:

    Rafael
I can’t give you a very good answer to that.
The water this year is cooler than normal for this time of the year and quite streekie going any where from as coold as 58 to 65 but the fish have been mostly caught in the 61 to 63 range.
in the local areas. You might want to take a look at the Terrafin site

This is a great source of info

I just got back to Michigan from the 3 1/2 day trip #38 on the Big Game 90. We went the distance and we slaughtered quality Yellowtail at Cedros. With near limits for our group of 5, I was hoping for some quality bottom fish to round out my sacks. We looked for the tuna on the way down and back for no joy, such is fishing.
We had booked this trip many months ago and took advantage of the 1/2 price deal. I was able to bring my first time nephews from various States, along with my seasoned 14 year old son because of the bro deal prices.
I have read about some complaints. All that I can say is you get what you pay for. If you want to pay the price you can go on the Intrepid and have a high definition satellite TV in your room and Javiar will stuff you with shellfish and fillet. But if the fish aren’t biting they aren’t biting.
I would have not been able to share my passion with my extended family had it not been for Irv, Captain Mike, and the crew of old Big Game 90. Thank you
